## Description

**Postalion is a complete newsletter plugin that runs on your own site.** People
sign up through a form, a block, a popup or a box in the forms you already use.
You write in a composer made for email, pick one of twelve templates, and Postalion
sends in the background, a batch at a time, keeping a record of every email. Your
list stays in your WordPress database.

All of it is free: **no limit on subscribers or sends, no account to create, no
logo in your emails, no requests to outside servers unless you turn on an optional
spam check.** Try it now with the **Live Preview** button above, or see it with
real content on [postalion.fantasythemes.net](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/).
For shops and larger lists there is [Postalion Pro](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/pro/),
a separate add-on with email sequences, visual automations, segments by behaviour,
WooCommerce automations and one-time coupons, a drag-and-drop builder with templates,
A/B subject lines, bounce handling and a REST API with webhooks.

The one-minute tour:

#### Why Postalion

 * **No limits.** Unlimited subscribers, lists and sends. Nothing to unlock.
 * **Your list stays yours.** Subscribers live in your own database. Nothing is
sent to us or to anyone else.
 * **Mail that arrives.** SMTP built in with a test button, or the mail plugin you
   already use.
 * **Readers stay in charge.** Double opt-in, one-click unsubscribe, and a preferences
   page linked from every email.
 * **Looked after.** Tested before every release, improved every few weeks, support
answered on the forum. See the [changelog](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/changelog/)
   and the [roadmap](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/roadmap/).

Coming from another service? [Importing from Mailchimp](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/import-and-export/#mailchimp)·
[Switching from MailPoet](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/switch-from-mailpoet/)·
[Switching from Newsletter](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/switch-from-newsletter/).

#### Write

 * A composer made for email, with blocks mail clients understand: headline, button,
two columns, image and text, note, divider, spacer, social links
 * **Twelve templates**: Classic, Letter, Bulletin, Announcement, Card, Modern,
and for particular kinds of sites Programme (venues, festivals, courses), Shop(
products and prices), School (schools, parishes, associations), Tech (software
and product updates), Garden (gardens, nurseries, farms) and Café (cafés, restaurants,
   bakeries). [See all twelve](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/templates/)
 * Personal details in the text: `{first_name}`, the subscriber’s email, any custom
field such as `{city}`, the site name and address
 * Preview on desktop and phone, and a test email to yourself
 * A web version of every newsletter (“View in browser”) and a public archive of
   the ones you sent
 * Your site logo on top, or the site name when there is no logo

[How the composer and the templates work](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/newsletters-and-templates/),
with pictures.

#### Send

 * Background sending in batches: the first batch at once, the rest through WP-Cron
 * Batch size and pause are yours to set (default: 10 emails every 5 seconds)
 * Send now or schedule a date and time
 * Live progress, with stop and resume; an interrupted send continues where it stopped
and nobody gets the same email twice
 * **Resend to people who did not open**: one click makes a draft for exactly them

#### Mail server (optional)

Out of the box the emails go through the mail function of WordPress, so whatever
your host or your mail plugin set up keeps working. If nothing is set up, enter
an SMTP server under Settings: your own, or a sending service such as Brevo, Amazon
SES, Mailgun, Postmark or SendGrid. A button tries the settings before you save
them, the password is stored encrypted, and a switch can route all the mail of the
site through the same server. No second plugin needed. [Sending, batches and the SMTP setup](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/sending-and-smtp/)

#### Grow

 * Sign-up form as a block or a shortcode, with double opt-in
 * **The form under every post**, where readers who finished one are most likely
   to want the next
 * **A sign-up popup**: in the middle of the page or as a corner panel; after a
delay, half-way down the page, or when the visitor is about to leave; once closed
   it stays away
 * **Page builders**: the form as a native element in Elementor, Beaver Builder,
   Bricks and Divi
 * **Sign-up checkboxes in the forms you already have**: registration, comments,
the WooCommerce checkout, Contact Form 7, WPForms, Fluent Forms, Gravity Forms,
Ninja Forms, Formidable, Forminator and Elementor Pro forms
 * **Spam protection**: a hidden trap field and a rate limit on every form; optionally
refuse throwaway inboxes, block domains, check sign-ups with Akismet, or add
   Cloudflare Turnstile
 * **Lists, tags and custom fields**: group people, label them, keep details about
them; filter, send to a list or a tag, use the details in emails
 * **WooCommerce**: a box at the checkout, a Customer tag and last-order fields
for buyers who subscribed, new-product emails
 * CSV import and export; **import from Mailchimp** (its export zip, with tags,
fields, sign-up dates and unsubscribes); **one-click imports from MailPoet and
from Newsletter**, with lists, fields and statuses
 * The users of your site are subscribers too, and can opt out from their profile
 * Search, filters and bulk actions

[Import and export](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/import-and-export/)

#### Automatic emails (optional)

 * A welcome email once someone is confirmed
 * Each new post as a newsletter, to everyone, to lists or to a tag, limited to
   the categories you pick
 * A digest of new posts: daily, weekly or monthly, at the hour you choose, only
   when there is something new
 * An email to you for each new subscriber, if you want one

[Automatic emails](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/automatic-emails/)

#### Statistics (optional, off by default)

 * Opens and clicks per newsletter, with the links that were clicked
 * Counted on your own site; nothing is sent anywhere else
 * **Campaign tags (UTM)** on the links, so Google Analytics, Matomo or Umami show
   the visits each newsletter brought
 * **The last 30 days** on the dashboard: who joined, who left, and why they said
   they left
 * **Subscribers who stopped opening**: find them and unsubscribe them in one go,
   to keep your delivery healthy

[Statistics](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/statistics/)

#### Keep track

 * Email log: every email with its recipient, date and result, and a preview of
the email as that person received it
 * Activity log: sign-ups, confirmations, preference changes, unsubscribes (with
the reason, when given), imports and sends
 * System log for errors and warnings, cleaned up automatically after a period you
   choose

#### Respect

 * An unsubscribe link in every email, plus one-click unsubscribe for mail clients
   that support it (List-Unsubscribe-Post)
 * **A preferences page** in every email: the reader edits their name and details,
picks their lists, or leaves; no account, no password
 * An optional question when someone leaves, so you learn why
 * No tracking pixels and no rewritten links unless you turn statistics on
 * Supports the WordPress tools for exporting and erasing personal data
 * No telemetry and no external requests

[Privacy and GDPR](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/privacy-and-gdpr/)

#### Languages

English and Romanian ship with the plugin. Spanish is being translated by volunteers
on translate.wordpress.org, where you can help with your language too.

#### Shortcodes

 * `[postalion_form]` – sign-up form. Attributes: `title`, `description`, `button_text`,`
   show_name="false"`, `list="slug"`, `tags="slug"`, `fields="city,company"`, `class`.
In the block editor, use the “Postalion sign-up form” block instead.
 * `[postalion_unsubscribe]` – unsubscribe form.
 * `[postalion_subscriber_count]` – number of people on your list.
 * `[postalion_archive]` – the newsletters you sent, each with its web version.
   Attributes: `limit`, `lists="slug"`.

#### For developers

    ```
    postalion_subscribe( $email, $args ) subscribes an address from your own code, the way the form does. Filters and actions: `postalion_templates`, `postalion_logo_url`, `postalion_newsletter_recipients`, `postalion_email_content`, `postalion_email_sent`, `postalion_subscriber_subscribed`, `postalion_subscriber_confirmed`, `postalion_subscriber_tagged`, `postalion_subscriber_untagged`, `postalion_order_recorded`, `postalion_notify_post`, `postalion_digest_include_post`, `postalion_digest_content`, `postalion_post_newsletter_content`, `postalion_show_popup`, `postalion_form_after_post`, `postalion_signup_spam_check`, `postalion_utm_values`, `postalion_admin_menu`, `postalion_dashboard_cards`, and for new audience types `postalion_audience_types`, `postalion_audience_emails`, `postalion_describe_audience`, `postalion_compose_audience`, `postalion_settings_audience`. Documentation at [postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/developers](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/developers/).
    ```

#### Postalion Pro (add-on)

Postalion Pro is a separate plugin for shops and larger lists:

 * **Email sequences**: a series of emails started by a sign-up, a tag, an order,
a cart left behind or a quiet customer, days apart, written in the same composer.
   [How sequences work](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/pro-sequences/)
 * **Segments by behaviour**: opened, clicked, bought, went quiet; counted fresh
   every time you send. [Segments](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/pro-segments/)
 * **WooCommerce automations**: abandoned cart with a link that rebuilds the cart,
   after-the-order series, win-back. [Shop automations](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/pro-shop-automations/)
 * **Drag-and-drop builder**: an email built from blocks, dragged into place and
edited where they stand. [The builder](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/pro-builder/)
 * **A/B subject lines**: two subjects on a test group, the winner to everyone else.
   [The subject test](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/pro-ab-test/)
 * **Priority support** from the author, within one working day

Pro is built on the hooks of this plugin. The free plugin is complete on its own
and keeps every feature; Pro adds, it never takes away. Prices, documentation and
a 14-day money-back guarantee at [postalion.fantasythemes.net/pro](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/pro/).

### External services

Postalion works on your own site and calls no outside service on its own. Two optional
spam checks, both off until you turn them on under **Settings Subscribing**, use
one:

**Cloudflare Turnstile** (a privacy-friendly alternative to a CAPTCHA). When you
enter Turnstile keys, pages with a Postalion form load Cloudflare’s script from
challenges.cloudflare.com, which checks in the visitor’s browser that they are a
person. On sign-up, the token from that check and the visitor’s IP address are sent
to Cloudflare’s verification address (challenges.cloudflare.com/turnstile/v0/siteverify)
to confirm it. Cloudflare’s [terms of service](https://www.cloudflare.com/website-terms/)
and [privacy policy](https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/) apply; see also
the [Turnstile privacy addendum](https://www.cloudflare.com/turnstile-privacy-policy/).

**Akismet** (by Automattic). When the Akismet plugin is installed and connected
and you tick the Akismet check, each sign-up’s email address, name, IP address,
browser user agent and page address are sent to Akismet through the Akismet plugin,
to judge whether it is spam. Akismet’s [terms of service](https://akismet.com/tos/)
and [privacy policy](https://automattic.com/privacy/) apply.

Your newsletters themselves leave through your site’s mail setup: WordPress’s own
mail function or the SMTP server you enter, which you choose and which has its own
terms.

## Blocks

This plugin provides 1 block.

 * Postalion sign-up form A newsletter sign-up form. Visitors who subscribe join
   the list you choose.

## Installation

 1. Install Postalion from the Plugins screen, or upload the `postalion` folder to `/
    wp-content/plugins/`.
 2. Activate it.
 3. The Postalion dashboard opens. Its first step sends you a test email; check the
sender name and address under **Postalion Settings**.
 4. Add the Postalion sign-up block (or `[postalion_form]`, or the element in your
page builder) to a page so visitors can sign up, or import your list under **Postalion
Subscribers**, from MailPoet or from Newsletter.
 5. Write your first newsletter under **Postalion Newsletters**.

For reliable delivery, enter an SMTP server or a sending service under **Postalion
Settings Sending method** and press “Send test”. If you already use a mail plugin(
WP Mail SMTP, FluentSMTP, Post SMTP), keep it: Postalion goes through it automatically.

## FAQ

### Is it really free, with no limits?

Yes. Every feature described above is in the free plugin, with no cap on subscribers,
lists or sends, and no logo in your emails. The only limits are those of your host
or mail service. Postalion Pro is a separate add-on with extra features; it does
not unlock anything in the free plugin.

### What is Postalion Pro, and do I need it?

Pro is a second plugin, installed next to this one, for shops and larger lists:
email sequences, segments by behaviour, WooCommerce automations (abandoned cart,
after-the-order series, win-back) and priority support. Most sites do not need it:
newsletters, forms, lists, automatic emails and statistics are all in the free plugin.
Pro is paid yearly through Freemius, with fourteen days money back; removing it
leaves your list and newsletters untouched. Details at [postalion.fantasythemes.net/pro](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/pro/).

### How are the emails sent?

Through the standard `wp_mail()` function, or through an SMTP server you enter under
Settings  Sending method. On most hosts the mail function works for a small list;
for reliable delivery use a sending service such as Brevo, Amazon SES, Mailgun or
Postmark, since the mail servers of shared hosting are often blocklisted. A mail
plugin you already have keeps working: Postalion goes through it. Video: [setting up SMTP with Brevo](https://youtu.be/Wbu7KrA6zGA).

### How many emails can I send?

As many as your host or mail service allows. Postalion does not count. Set the batch
size and the pause between batches under **Postalion Settings** to stay inside
their limits.

### Do I need a cron job?

No. Sending runs on WP-Cron, which WordPress triggers when someone visits the site.
On a site with very little traffic, a real cron job for `wp-cron.php` keeps batches
and scheduled newsletters on time.

### What happens when someone clicks the unsubscribe link?

They see a short page asking them to confirm, and one click on the button unsubscribes
them. The link itself does not unsubscribe, so mail scanners that open links cannot
remove people by accident. Mail clients with a built-in unsubscribe button unsubscribe
at once. Next to it, “Your preferences” lets people change their lists and details
instead of leaving.

### Does it help with GDPR?

It gives you the tools: double opt-in (on by default), an unsubscribe link and a
preferences page in every email, support for the WordPress personal data export
and erase requests, and automatic deletion of old log entries. Statistics are off
by default; when you turn them on, opens and clicks are counted on your own site
and the privacy policy guide tells you what to mention. No data leaves your site
except the emails you send. What you send, and to whom, remains your responsibility.

### Can I import my existing subscribers?

Yes. From a CSV file under **Postalion Subscribers Import CSV**: the file needs
an email column; names, lists, tags and custom fields are optional. Addresses already
on the list are skipped, and people who unsubscribed stay unsubscribed.

Coming from Mailchimp? Export your audience there (Audience Export audience), then
upload the zip under **Postalion Subscribers Import from Mailchimp**. You choose
where each column goes; tags, custom fields and sign-up dates come over, people
who unsubscribed stay unsubscribed, and bounced addresses stay behind. Video: [moving a Mailchimp list to WordPress](https://youtu.be/MO53TtQHguc).

Coming from MailPoet or from Newsletter (The Newsletter Plugin)? If it is installed
on the same site, **Postalion Settings** offers a one-click import of its subscribers
with their names, lists, custom fields, statuses and sign-up dates. Nothing in the
other plugin is changed, so you can compare the two before removing it. Only import
people who agreed to receive email from you.

### Does it work with WooCommerce?

Yes. A sign-up box at the checkout (ticked or not, your choice), a Customer tag
and “last order” fields for buyers who subscribed, so you can write to customers
only, and new products sent out like posts. Abandoned-cart and after-the-order emails
are part of Postalion Pro.

### Does it work with my page builder?

The sign-up form is a native element in Elementor, Beaver Builder, Bricks and Divi,
with the same options as the block. Everywhere else, the `[postalion_form]` shortcode
works.

### Can I change the look of the sign-up form?

The form takes the font of your theme. Three CSS custom properties change the rest:`--
postalion-accent`, `--postalion-accent-text` and `--postalion-radius`, set on `.
postalion-subscription-form`.

### Can I add my own email template?

Yes, with the `postalion_templates` filter: register a name, a description and the
path to an HTML file that contains `{content}`.

### Is it translation ready?

Yes. Every text in the plugin, including the footer of the emails, can be translated.
Romanian ships with the plugin; other languages come through translate.wordpress.
org.

### Can I have more than one list?

Yes. Create lists under **Postalion Lists & tags**. Each sign-up form, block or
checkbox can fill a particular list, and when you write a newsletter you choose
everyone, some lists, people with a tag, or only the users of the site. Unsubscribing
always covers every list; readers can pick their lists on the preferences page.
Video: [lists, tags and custom fields](https://youtu.be/HbfIucrseYw).

### Where is the data stored, and how do I remove it?

In thirteen tables in your WordPress database. Deleting the plugin keeps the data
unless you turn on **Delete all data when the plugin is deleted** under Settings.

### Where do I get help?

On the [support forum](https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/postalion/), answered
by the author, in the [documentation](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/docs/),
and in short [video tutorials](https://postalion.fantasythemes.net/videos/).

Postalion is an absolute gem. What I love most about it is that it keeps everything
inside your own WordPress database—no external third-party servers, no forced tracking
pixels, and no hidden limitations. The background batch-sending works smoothly,
the UI is modern and fits right into WordPress, and the template blocks make drafting
gorgeous newsletters a breeze. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable,
self-hosted newsletter solution!

## Changelog

#### 1.10.3

 * For add-ons: a postalion_preview_content filter lets them show sample values
in the newsletter preview (Postalion Pro uses it to show a sample coupon code
   instead of {coupon}).

#### 1.10.2

 * Fixed: on a new site, turning on the digest and choosing its day and hour in
the same save could send a digest straight away. The first save now starts the
schedule like any later change, so nothing goes out by surprise.
 * Fixed: the corner sign-up panel ran off the right edge of the screen in themes
that do not set box-sizing (Twenty Twenty-Five among them), and the centred popup
came out wider than set. The popup title also keeps clear of the close button.
 * Form sign-ups (WPForms, Contact Form 7 and the others): a single “Name” field
is split into first and last name, so {first_name} reads “Rosa”, not “Rosa Novak”.
 * Mailchimp import: columns nobody filled in are left out instead of becoming empty
   custom fields.
 * MailPoet import: empty lists, such as MailPoet’s default one, are offered unticked.
 * Video tutorials: a link in the Getting started card, and short videos linked
   from this readme.

#### 1.10.1

 * Fixed: the newsletter preview showed {first_name}, {last_name} and custom fields
as they were typed. It now fills them with your own details, the way a sent email
   fills them for each reader.

#### 1.10.0

 * Import from Mailchimp (Subscribers Import from Mailchimp): upload the zip from
Audience Export audience as it is. Postalion shows every column with examples
and a first guess; you choose where each goes (name, tags, an existing custom
field, a new one, or nowhere). Subscribed people join the lists you pick with
their Mailchimp tags and the date they signed up; people who unsubscribed come
over as unsubscribed (and anyone already here who left Mailchimp is unsubscribed
too); bounced (“cleaned”) addresses stay behind. The upload waits in a private
folder and is deleted after the import.
 * Four new templates, twelve in all: Modern (big black headlines, a thick rule;
for studios and makers), Tech (dark header with a blue line, code-friendly; for
software and product updates), Garden (soft greens, rounded corners; for gardens,
nurseries, farms) and Café (cream paper, terracotta header, italic serif; for
   cafés, restaurants, bakeries).
 * Buttons added with the Button block now take the template’s own colour where
the template has one (Shop, Modern, Tech, Garden, Café). Before, the email kept
the button dark although the template asked otherwise.
 * Fixed: the “Close” tooltip of the preview window showed behind the window.
 * The CSV import reads tags written the Mailchimp way (“VIP”,”Customer”) without
   the quotes.
 * The readme lists the two optional outside services (Cloudflare Turnstile, Akismet):
what is sent, when, and their terms.
 * For add-ons: an action after every activity entry (postalion_activity), which
Postalion Pro 1.2 uses for its unsubscribe and newsletter-sent webhooks; every
Postalion Pro screen gets the admin styles.

#### 1.9.0

 * Spam protection for the sign-up forms, under Settings Subscribing: refuse throwaway
inboxes (on by default), block domains of your choice, check sign-ups with Akismet
when it is installed, or add Cloudflare Turnstile under every form. The hidden
trap field and the rate limit stay.
 * The sign-up form under every post (Settings Form under posts): title, text,
button, list and post types of your choice; posts that already have a form are
   left alone.
 * The popup can be a corner panel instead of a centred box, and can appear after
a delay, half-way down the page or when the visitor is about to leave.
 * An email to you for each new subscriber, with their address, name and lists (
   Settings Subscribing).
 * Campaign tags (UTM) on the links of newsletters, for Google Analytics, Matomo
or Umami (Settings Statistics). The plugin’s own links are left alone.
 * Subscribers who stopped opening: Settings finds the people who received N newsletters
in the last months and opened none, and unsubscribes them in one go, with an
   entry in the Activity log.
 * The unsubscribe page asks, optionally, why the person leaves; the answer shows
in the Activity log and, counted, on the dashboard.
 * The dashboard shows the last 30 days: who joined and who left, day by day.
 * Sign-up checkboxes for Gravity Forms, Ninja Forms, Formidable Forms and Forminator,
   next to the existing ones.
 * New hooks: postalion_signup_spam_check, postalion_throwaway_domains, postalion_form_after_post,
   postalion_utm_values, postalion_ask_unsubscribe_reason.

#### 1.8.0

 * For add-ons: a send can hold part of its recipients back until the add-on releases
them (queue status “held”; the five-minute monitor sends them anyway if nothing
claims them), and a single delivery can get another subject line. New hooks:
   postalion_newsletter_queued, postalion_queue_subject, postalion_keep_held, postalion_newsletter_saved,
   postalion_newsletter_duplicated, postalion_newsletter_deleted, postalion_newsletter_stopped,
   postalion_compose_after_subject, postalion_compose_before_content, postalion_newsletter_report.
Postalion Pro 1.1 uses them for its A/B subject test and its drag-and-drop builder.
Nothing changes for sites without it.
 * The Postalion Pro screen lists the builder and A/B subject lines among the add-
   on’s features.

#### 1.7.5

 * Postalion Pro is out: the “Postalion Pro” screen now describes the add-on as
released (sequences, segments, WooCommerce automations, priority support) with
its prices, and a one-time note on the Postalion dashboard says so on sites that
already send. The note stays on Postalion’s own screens, goes away with one click,
and leaves by itself after a month. Nothing in the free plugin changes.
 * Every icon button in the tables (preview, duplicate, resend, delete and the rest)
now shows its name on hover and on keyboard focus.

#### 1.7.4

 * The Mobile preview (Logs, composer, templates) now shows an email the way a phone
mail app does: a card laid out for a desktop width shrinks to the screen and
long links wrap, so emails sent before 1.7.3 no longer look cut off there.

#### 1.7.3

 * Fixed: the confirmation email (and the “already on the list” note) had a fixed
width and was cut off on phones and in the Mobile preview in Logs. They now fit
   any screen.
 * Templates: a long link pasted into a newsletter wraps on phones instead of widening
   the email.

#### 1.7.2

 * Fixed: the form’s hidden anti-spam field was only moved off screen, so browser
autofill could fill it in and a real sign-up was quietly dropped while the form
said “check your inbox”. The field is now not rendered at all (bots still see
   it in the page source).
 * A sign-up stopped by the anti-spam field is now written to Logs > System with
its address (at most once an hour per visitor), so you can see it.
 * Fixed: behind Cloudflare, the sign-up limit (10 an hour per visitor) counted
Cloudflare’s addresses, so many visitors could share one limit. Postalion now
uses the visitor’s address that Cloudflare passes on, only when the request really
comes from Cloudflare. A postalion_client_ip filter covers other proxies.

#### 1.7.1

 * Fixed: a user of the site who signed up through a form (for example one with
list=”…”) was told to check their inbox, but was not put on the list and received
nothing. They now get a confirmation email and join the form’s list, tags and
fields like any other visitor; the answer on the form is the same for everyone,
so it does not reveal who has an account.
 * Someone already subscribed who signs up again receives a short “you are already
on the list” email (at most once an hour) instead of nothing, and the Activity
   log shows it.
 * Unsubscribing a site user now also takes them off the lists they joined through
a form; confirming a new sign-up turns newsletters back on for their account.
 * The form’s hidden anti-spam field has a name that browser autofill and password
managers leave alone (an autofilled field made real sign-ups look like spam).

#### 1.7.0

 * Three more templates: Programme (venues, festivals, courses), Shop (products
and prices) and School (schools, parishes, associations). Eight in all, picked
   per newsletter.
 * The digest and the new-post notification accept an add-on’s audience type (Postalion
Pro’s segments), through the postalion_settings_audience action and the *_audience_ids
options; a postalion_dashboard_cards action on the dashboard. No change for sites
   without the add-on.

#### 1.6.0

 * Preferences page: every email now carries a “Your preferences” link next to Unsubscribe,
where a reader changes their name, their details and which lists they are on,
   instead of leaving altogether.
 * Resend to people who did not open: on a sent newsletter with statistics on, a
new action makes a draft addressed only to the people who did not open it; change
   the subject line and send.
 * Hooks for add-ons: audience types (postalion_audience_types, postalion_audience_emails,
   postalion_describe_audience, postalion_compose_audience) and email links (postalion_email_action).
They are what Postalion Pro uses; nothing changes for sites without it.

#### 1.5.0

 * Romanian translation shipped with the plugin (language packs from translate.wordpress.
org take over when they exist).
 * Import from Newsletter (The Newsletter Plugin): subscribers, statuses, lists
and custom fields come over in batches, like the MailPoet import, under Settings.
 * Digests and new-post notifications can be limited to categories (a “Culture”
digest from a magazine’s culture section, subcategories included) and sent to
everyone with a tag, not only to lists.
 * The sign-up form as a native element in Elementor, Beaver Builder, Bricks and
Divi: drop it in, set the texts, the list, the tags and the custom fields, like
the block. Other builders use their shortcode element with [postalion_form].

#### 1.4.0

 * Tags: labels on subscribers (“customer”, “webinar 2026”, “VIP”). Put them on
by hand or in bulk on the Subscribers screen, from a form ([postalion_form tags
=”webinar”] or the block’s Tags setting), from a “tags” column in a CSV import,
or from code. Filter subscribers by tag, and send a newsletter to everyone who
   carries a tag.
 * Custom fields: company, city, birthday, plan, anything you need to keep about
a subscriber. Text, number, date or a choice from a list. Ask for them in a form(
fields=”company, city”), import them from CSV columns, see them in the export,
and use them in emails as {company}.
 * New email variables: {first_name}, {last_name} and one per custom field; an unknown
value is left empty instead of showing the variable.
 * WooCommerce: with “Keep track of customers” on (Settings Shop), a paid order
tags the buyer “Customer” and keeps two fields, “Last order” and “Orders”, if
they are a subscriber. Write to customers only, or mention {last_order} in an
email. Nobody is subscribed by a purchase.
 * The personal data export and erasure cover tags and custom fields. Lists, tags
and fields are managed on one screen, Postalion Lists & tags.

#### 1.3.0

 * Sign-up checkboxes for WPForms and Fluent Forms, and for Elementor Pro forms (
beta): a ticked box subscribes the address from the form, with double opt-in
   if it is on.
 * Web version of every newsletter: a “View in browser” link in the footer opens
it on your site, addressed to “there” and counting nothing. It can be turned
   off in Settings.
 * Public archive: the [postalion_archive] shortcode lists the newsletters sent
to everyone (or to the lists you name), newest first.
 * Digest of new posts: every day, week or month, at the hour you choose, the posts
published since the last digest go out as one newsletter, to everyone or to chosen
lists. Nothing is sent when there is nothing new. A button sends you a test digest
   first.

#### 1.2.2

 * Fix: some unsubscribe links answered “This link does not work” (site users with
a one-digit ID, subscribers with ID 1–9 or 1000–9999, and some addresses). The
links now work, including the ones in emails that already went out.
 * Someone who unsubscribes while a newsletter is still going out no longer gets
it from the batches that follow.

#### 1.2.1

 * A note on the dashboard asks for a review on WordPress.org once the first newsletter
has gone out. It appears only on Postalion’s screens, and one answer makes it
   go away.

#### 1.2.0

 * Sending method: an SMTP server or a sending service can be set up in Settings,
with a test button that tries the values before they are saved; the password
is stored encrypted. Optionally the same server carries all the mail of the site.
 * Import from MailPoet: subscribers, lists, statuses and sign-up dates come over
in batches, without changing anything in MailPoet.
 * After activation the dashboard opens and the first step sends the test email
   right there.
 * The dashboard shows the sending method and links to the changelog.

#### 1.1.0

 * Lists: group subscribers, fill a list from a form, send to chosen lists or to
   site users only.
 * Statistics, off by default: opens and clicks per newsletter, with the links clicked,
   counted on your own site.
 * Welcome email and new post notification, both optional.
 * The sign-up form as a block, with a live preview in the editor.
 * An optional sign-up popup.
 * Sign-up checkboxes for the registration form, comments, the WooCommerce checkout
   and Contact Form 7.
 * `postalion_subscribe()` for developers; new filters for the popup and the post
   notification.

#### 1.0.0

 * First release.
